Mod1, Grenada’s leading Managed IT & Information Security Services Provider, has launched its Donate IT program in partnership with AllyDay Creative Projects. Donate IT is a community initiative designed to bridge the gap between education received in schools and the ever growing requirement for the use of technology in the workforce. Through the program, Mod1 and AllyDay will collect used computers and other technology which are then repaired and/or upgraded before being donated to schools and similar institutions, so that students can have access and gain better understanding of information systems.

Having served a number of businesses in Grenada for the last 10 years, we are keenly aware of what companies demand of their IT teams as well as what skills IT graduates are coming out of school with. This has brought to light the fact that what students are being taught is not all that is needed to get their careers started in the real world. Donate IT was formed as a result of this realization to offer a meaningful internship experience and training in IT and, from a wider perspective, to help support Grenada’s long-standing goal of becoming a knowledge-based society.

In addition to the donation of technology, Donate IT also offers an internship program for students pursuing their education in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or Computer Science. The program employs two interns over a three-to-six-month period, whereby the candidates receive hands on training in basic computer repairs, networking – which is a core service offered by Mod1 – and gain valuable work experience.

Mod1 will organize and publicize the donation of the repaired computers and equipment to the organizations chosen by the donors.
